Junior Certification
Policies Applying to All NAUI Diving Certification Courses
As taken from NAUI Standards and Policies Manual (1996 Edition)
Age. The minimum age for each level of training is to be reached by the
water phase of the course (by first class).
Some courses allow a conditional Junior Certification. If the course involves
the use of compressed breathing gas, junior certification can be issued to
persons aged 12 - 14 years. Junior certification carries the following
conditional restrictions:
- The parent or guardian and Junior diver agree that the Junior diver will
dive with a certified adult (18 years of age) diver of the parent or
guardian's selection.
- The parent or guardian and Junior diver agree that the Junior diver will
limit diving depth to 60 feet or less.
- By signing the Junior certification card, the parent or guardian agree to
be responsible for the selection of the certified adult buddy and the
limitation of the diving depth.
- To remove the Junior card's conditional requirements, a new card must be
requested by an active-status instructor once the junior diver attains the
age required for full certification.
Aqua Sports (Junior certification) Policy
Our Policy requires all 12 - 14 year old students participating in a scuba
course adhere to NAUI Jr. cert. standards as well as the following:
- To be accompanied be a parent or guardian throughout the course, as either
a registered student in the pool, or as an observer at pool side.
- If either parent/guardian possess a current valid C-card, the above
requirement may be waved. (proof of certification required upon
registration: cert. year - instructor # - student I.D.#)
- To transfer a Junior certification to a open water 1 certification at age
15, former student will return for 1 pool session to pass skills review.
